In 2013 T-Mobile Kills Plans For 84Mbps HSPA+ Network – Will Jump Straight To LTE

T-mobile store logo (1020)

According to T-Mobile USA Senior Vice President Andrew Sherrad in an interview with The Verge, that the carrier would be skipping their original plans to introduce an even faster 84Mbps network, in favor of moving straight to an LTE based one. The move is for a few reasons. For one, T-Mobile wants to continue emphasizing their WiFi calling feature and currently, their UMA based service can’t support when a customer is on a WiFi call, and leaves their wireless network — the call will drop. But once T-Mobile gets on board the LTE train, this will no longer be a problem with the new network transitioning seamlessly between the two.
That isn’t to say T-Mobile will just drop everything in their move to LTE. T-Mo will continue rolling out their plenty fast 42Mbps HSPA+ network while getting ready for LTE in 2013. And really, that network seems to be holding up pretty well compared to their nearest competitor, Sprint’s 3G/4G network.

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II T989 sourcing code released

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II t989 source code releasedThe source code of T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II t989 is finally released on theSamsung’s official site, this is a big news for all guys who are busy trying to root T-MobileSamsung Galaxy S II. As you may remember the AT&T version Samsung Galaxy S II gets rooted within 24 hours since the first unit left shelf, but almost one week has passed, theSamsung T989 is still running on the stock ROM, although all genius were involved in rooting the handset.-T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II info
You may ask that why not try the same root method for the Samsung i777 on the Samsung T989, you can’t try that! It will brick the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II, since these two phones are not the same, they have different CPU, it means they have different source codeand different root method. But everything is changed now since the source code of the T-Mobile Samsung t989 was officially released, I bet it will be within one day the Samsungt989 could get rooted. And I think this is a big bad news for those who had returned their T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II, they were too hurry to do that.
And if you have interested in rooting the Samsung T989, just go ahead to the opensource.samsung.com to get the official source code. And I will share the root tutorial here as soon as it is fixed out.

Update software T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II T989 gets KL1

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II T989 gets KL1 software updateIf you are the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II t989 user, I am sure you are waiting for the ICS firmware on your hanset. While from now on, your Samsung Galaxy S II does get a software update, but not the highly-anticipated android 4.0 update, it is merely a maintenance update, it offers caller ID enhancements, battery enhancements and Wi-Fi calling enhancements. If your Samsung Galaxy T989 receives a notification message, it must be this KL1 software update.
As you see, it is only a small update, if you feel your Samsung Galaxy S II is fine, you are not required to install this upate, just opt out fo the upgrade, and I think this won’t effect the up coming android 4.0 update on your phone.
Then if you decide to install the update, you should back up all data on your Samsung T989, in case it affect the content or contacts loaded to your handset. And if you missed the OTA update, don’t worry, it can be available via Kies mini in a few days.

AT&T launches pilot program for expanded push-to-talk services

AT&T launches pilot program for expanded push-to-talk services
Let's face it, walkie-talkies are far from glamorous, but for large and small enterprises that rely on real-time communication, the WWII artifact remains an integral part of the workday. Now, AT&T has set forth on a journey to give its push-to-talk services a modern makeover, and it's recruiting a few partners to join the quest. In addition to providing PTT-enabled smartphones, the carrier will be testing IP-based technologies that offer workflow automation for tasks such as fleet management and dispatch. Additionally, the system will also offer integration with traditional radio systems such as PMR and LMR, which means an organization won't need to transition its entire crew at once. You can find more about AT&T's hybrid communications system in the PR after the break.

Connection in an Instant: Customers to Trial Enhanced Push To Talk Services from AT&T

Charter Program Will Allow Participants to Experience Communications on a New Level

Dallas, Texas, February 21, 2012

In today's fast-paced business world, every second counts. Communication must happen in a flash to keep an organization moving. And to help meet this need for speed, AT&T* is launching a charter program to trial a suite of enhanced push to talk (PTT) services that will take workgroup communications to the next level.

The enhanced PTT solution trial, powered by Kodiak Networks Inc. InstaPoC™ technology, will harness AT&T's mobile broadband speeds, expansive wireless network coverage, broad portfolio of devices and the power of IP-based technology. That means faster and richer collaboration, lower cost of ownership and great potential for integration with mobile applications.

In addition, AT&T is working to integrate traditional private mobile radio (PMR) systems with this enhanced PTT service trial, and will demonstrate the functionality with Raytheon JPS at the 2012 International Wireless Communications Expo (IWCE). AT&T and Raytheon expect that push to talk interoperability across different networks will extend coverage of existing PMR systems and facilitate better communications for field dispatch and operations, when many people from many different organizations need to reach each other quickly.

Charter Program Details

Selected business customers in a range of industries – transportation, utilities, manufacturing and more – will get a first look at potential PTT services through AT&T's charter program.
Participants will use powerful, state of the art smartphones to test the technology.
The charter program will provide AT&T and customers with a better understanding of the potential that the enhanced PTT service can offer.
AT&T will work closely with customers participating in the program to measure results, and participants will have the opportunity to give feedback on their experiences.

Imagine how a field worker could benefit from enhanced PTT. Instead of lugging around a bag with a clipboard, a cell phone and a mobile radio, workers could carry one mobile device, complete with mobile apps and AT&T's PTT services. If an employee has a question while on the job, he or she could connect almost instantly to a supervisor – and even fill out forms on a mobile app while talking. A dispatcher could also reference PTT presence status to locate field workers quickly and assign the right employee to the task at hand.

"AT&T – with its fast LTE network, rugged device portfolio, business know-how and open approach to application development – is well-positioned to develop enhanced PTT services," said Andrew Seybold, CEO & Principal Consultant, Andrew Seybold, Inc., a consultancy focused on cellular and private mobile radio industries.

"Our customers are looking for a holistic PTT service – one that supports instant calls, numerous devices, dispatch applications and Application Programming Interfaces for developers," said Chris Hill, Vice President, Advanced Mobility Solutions, AT&T Business Solutions. "Our goal is to meet and exceed those expectations. What's more, we want to combine enhanced PTT services with an array of advanced mobility applications to build truly comprehensive solutions."

AT&T's mobility application consultants can also help charter customers craft their strategies for migration from legacy networks that are currently being phased out to AT&T's anticipated high-performance solution.

Sneak Peak into AT&T's Enhanced PTT Offer

AT&T's enhanced push to talk service charter program features:

A combination of high-performance PTT communications and mobile data services that allow users to talk and use productivity applications simultaneously
Large contact lists and groups, ideal for organizations with lots of mobile employees
Faster call setup times than traditional PTT solutions
Integration with business applications for field force automation, fleet management, dispatching, GPS tracking and more
Ability to run on a wide range of smartphones, rugged phones, feature phones and specialty devices
Interoperability with existing mobile radio systems, such as Land Mobile Radio (LMR) and Private Mobile Radio (PMR)

Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G making its way into T-Mobile stores in March for $150

We heard about Samsung's Galaxy S Blaze 4G -- a device that wins second place for longest name behind the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch -- last month at CES, but details were incredibly scarce. Of course, leave it to T-Mobile and Sammy to toss in a few extra nuggets in the lead-up to Mobile World Congress  in the midst of so many other product announcements. It turns out that the Blaze 4G will be making its official debut on the carrier sometime near the end of March for $150 on a two-year commitment. The device sports a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 CPU, 4-inch Super AMOLED panel, 5MP rear camera with 720p video capture, a 1.3MP front-facing shooter and -- shocker -- Android 2.3. It also supports 42Mbps HSPA+. Definitely sounds like a healthy mix of 2010 and 2011, no doubt. Want more details? We've got the press release after the break ready and waiting for you.

Using a Telus Modem Could Improve Data Speeds on AT&T SGS2

Data speeds are a touchy subject on pretty much every carrier worldwide. Sometimes the speeds are awesome, sometimes the speeds suck. Some are worse than others, some are better than others, but invariably there are customers of all of them who wish their speeds could be a little bitter.
Using a Telus Modem Could Improve Data Speeds on AT&T SGS2
Well, for those carrying the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727, your data woes may be a little closer to ending. XDA Senior Member kr3w1337 has posted that using a Telus modem could increase your data speeds. kr3w1337 explains:
Just wanted to share that using the Telus modem on the skyrocket leads to better speeds on HSPA for me. Reason being that the Telus modem has dual channel HSPA enabled so it should theoretically hit speeds of 42 mbps.
The method for flashing the modem is the same as flashing any other Samsung Galaxy S2 modem, so there’s no special tricks or difficult methods involved in the flashing process. Simply flash the modem and reboot. It’s only been tested by a few people, so kr3w1337 asks that if anyone does flash it to report to the thread to show their results.
If you’d like to give it a shot, you can find the download link to the modem and discussion in the Just wanted to share that using the Telus modem on the skyrocket leads to better speeds on HSPA for me. Reason being that the Telus modem has dual channel HSPA enabled so it should theoretically hit speeds of 42 mbps.

The modem can be found here. It is the Telus KJ3 modem.

This would work fine for both Rogers and AT&T users since Telus operates on the same frequencies. Share your experiences below if you try this please!. Be sure to find and download a stock modem so you can restore back to your regular modem if it doesn’t work.

Consumers Seek 4G Connections and Affordability According to New Survey

Nokia Lumia 710 Black
At CES, we announced that T-Mobile is rolling out 4G speeds to additional markets and tomorrow we’re launching our newest, affordable 4G smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 710.  It’s been our continued focus at T-Mobile to make a great 4G experience and compelling 4G devices broadly available and affordable for everyone. Recently, we conducted an Omnibus survey1 with Harris Interactive that confirms 4G connections and affordability are key features smartphone users are looking for when they shop for a new smartphone. Here’s a quick snapshot of some of the survey results: Value Remains Most Important Factor for First Time Smartphone Adopters: - More than four-in-ten (44 %) first time smartphone buyers in 2012 say the cost of the data plan associated with the smartphone is the most influential reason they have not purchased a smartphone before. A 4G Connection is Becoming a Must for Smartphone/Tablet Owners: - About one-in-three consumers (28%) rank a "fast and reliable 4G network connection" as the most important feature they need when looking for a new smartphone. - 86% of current smartphone owners who also own a tablet want access to content on their tablet everywhere they can on their smartphone -- not just where there is Wi-Fi.  (NOTE: this may explain why T-Mobile’s SonicTM 4G Mobile Hotspot is popular with Wi-Fi-only tablet owners.) 2012 will be another exciting year for T-Mobile as 4G goes main stream. While last year marked the emergence of 4G networks, this year is all about fueling mass adoption by delivering fast, 4G connections in more places and innovative 4G products and services at a great value. 1Survey Methodology This survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Interactive on behalf of T-Mobile USA from December 20-22, 2011 among 2,573 adults ages 18 and older, among whom 235 will be first time smartphone buyers in 2012, and 988 are current smartphone users who will remain smartphone users in 2012. This online survey is not based on a probability sample and therefore no estimate of theoretical sampling error can be calculated. For complete survey methodology, including weighting variables, please contact kmcfadzean@waggeneredstrom.com.

Removing the Complexity for Small Business

For the more than 27.5 million small businesses in the U.S., the wireless experience can be overwhelming and confusing. Many of these customers – whether they are running a bakery, landscaping service, food truck, taxi company, boutique hotel, home healthcare services, catering company, legal or accounting service, handmade jewelry business, graphic design firm, construction company, or photography studio – don’t understand the alphabet soup of network technology acronyms or the technical specifics regarding the processor embedded in their device.
They simply want to know that their device will work and provide value where they do business. They want an affordable plan. They want easy access to data and applications. And, they need an advisor who understands their pain points and can guide them toward the adoption of easy-to-use wireless technologies that will help them run their businesses better.
T-Mobile is committed to removing the complexity for small business so they can focus on their business success and growth. We can:
  • Reduce wireless costs:  With T-Mobile, small business customers have the ability to tailor their wireless plans to their needs – from worry-free unlimited options that offer exceptional value, consistent and simple pricing, and scalability to flexible, well-priced pooling plans.
  • Eliminating headaches associated with business apps: For many small businesses, finding and downloading the right business applications translates to time they don’t have and headaches they can’t afford. The T-Mobile 4GPro App Pack, an aggregation of key business applications, such as DropBox, Evernote, Square, TripIt, Camscanner and LinkedIn, is preloaded on select smartphones and tablets, such as the Android-based HTC® Amaze™ 4G and Samsung Galaxy S™ II to reduce complexity and save small businesses precious time.
  • Provide opportunities for growth:  95 percent of small businesses that don’t accept credit cards today. With consumers carrying as many as 800 million credit cards between them, finding a way to simply and cost-effectively accept credit is the easiest path to growth. T-Mobile offers Square, a credit card reader that plugs into your Android or iPhone device, as an accessory in select retail stores. Armed with T-Mobile’s fastest smartphones, a high-speed nationwide network, and Square, formerly ‘cash only’ small businesses can accept credit card payments for the first time.
  • Offer support and guidance:  T-Mobile is committed to simplifying the purchase process and providing small businesses with the support they need – whether in person, online or on the phone. In fact, nearly 400 recently redesigned T-Mobile retail stores include seated areas that can be used for in-depth consultations with knowledgeable retail associates. The new global design format will continue to be rolled out this year, touching approximately 800 locations.
Now, THAT is easy to understanding

HTC "Endeavour" to keep handset specs under wraps, fail

htc-endeavor-top-leak.jpg
The HTC Endeavour has been revealed to the internet masses, with its spec sheet revealed by a sneek peek at the device's ROM.
First spotted back in November, some of you may recognise the handset as the HTC Edge, with the Android smartphone expected to be the new king of HTC's smartphone line-up.
A Tegra-powered handset (likely of the quad-core variety), it boasts a 720p screen, with an 8MP rear camera and a 1.3MP snapper facing forwards for vanity shots and video calling.
Android 4.0.3 is the OS of choice, being the most bang-up-to-date build of Ice Cream Sandwich available. You'll also get Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0, as well as HTC's superb Sense 4.0 UI over the top of Google's software.
We'll keep an eye out for the Endeavour as it undoubtedly gets a full showcase at MWC 2012 in Barcelona later this month.
